Creative work

This design was based at Cockatoo Island, the design was situated on the hill next to an old jail and for me the site held a lot of history which needed to be left. Instead I tried to combine the past with the present to make the new addition lead and direct visitors through to the entrance of the old jail. Another direction that influenced the design was the environment - when I was on the island I found myself very exposed and the distinct sounds was from the wind beating against the hard surfaces of the island. I wanted to soften that, I tried to create more soft and enclosed spaces to allow people to relax and get away from the harshness of the factories and concrete that overwhelmed the island.
This piece was in response to David Hockney's art, photographic collages. The beautiful thing about his work is that it tells a story and the action of the story is shown through the overlay of images displaying the passing of time. I have tried to grasp the same concept in this work, to show the man lighting the candle holder and the process from lighting the match to having lit all of the candles.

This design was an Exhibition space for an Artists retreat in WA. In this design I really wanted to focus on framing the views, there was the different views at different points of the site, the beach, a light house and the town. Another aim of this design was to enclose the space in a different way rather than the use of walls and how this changes the ambiance of the space.
